Awareness is the first step to improving your mental strength and Silence Your Inner Rival. Why awareness? You need to be aware of what the voice in your head is saying before you can change it. What are the positive and negatives, when are you speaking to yourself in a negative way, and what may be the causes of it? Once you become aware of those things, you can then take the necessary steps to improve the negatives, grow the positives, and begin to Silence Your Inner Rival.
So, then the question becomes, how you do become more aware? Now, if you ask 10 different people, you probably will get 10 different answers, but for me, it begins with mindfulness and meditation. Mindfulness can be thought of as the act of begin completely in the moment. Not thinking about something that may happen in the future and not worrying about something that happened in the past. Essentially being summed up in the words “being where your feet are.” When you can do that, you will have the ability to become more aware of your feelings, thoughts, and actions.
By slowing down your racing mind and “being where your feet are”, you are allowing yourself to take notice or “become aware” of what is going on inside of you. So again, the next question becomes, how do we become more mindful?
For me, meditation has been the Golden Ticket! The practice of meditation has allowed me to become more mindful throughout my daily life, which in turn has created more awareness as to my thoughts, emotions, and actions. It is then with that awareness I am able to make changes or continue what works.
The meditation that I generally do isn’t anything ground breaking. It is as simple as sitting calming and focusing on my breathing for roughly 10 minutes. If my mind wanders, and it will, then I simply bring to back to focusing on my breathing. I do this over and over. It is with this practice that I have cultivated more mindfulness within my daily life, which has in turn created more awareness within myself.
It will be worth it if you take the time to cultivate a meditation practice and become more mindful. Even if it is only for a few minutes a week. You will become more aware of what is going on inside and you will have take the first step towards Silencing Your Inner Rival
