How to succeed with the W.I.N. Method

There is no shortage of challenges and obstacles when you set goals that will get you out of your individual, group or organizational comfort zone. . By using the simple W.I.N. Method you or your group will be able to determine what steps you need to take next to achieve your goals.

So what is the W.I.N. Method?

What’s. Important. Now.

What’s important now, means exactly as it sounds. Taking care of the tasks right now that will help you to be the most successful in the future. It means doing what needs to be done whether you want to do it or not. This method will help to stop procrastination by having you take care of what’s important now, rather than what you would prefer to do now.

When you go to bed at night, make a list of tasks that you need to get done the next day. Arrange them from the most important to the least important. In the morning start working on your first task and don’t move on to the next one, until you are done with the first. Then, at the end of the day, make a new list of the tasks that are the most important to get done the following day. If you do this each day, you will constantly be taking on the tasks that are most important to you and your goals.

Another perk of this method is that it helps to remove minor distractions throughout your day. If it’s not on your list of what’s important for the day, then it’s probably not important, and therefore can be ignored.

There are certainly times when something will come up throughout the day and change what is important at that time, especially if you’re using the W.I.N. method within an organization. When that happens, you have to be flexible and be able to make adjustments. Does it take priority over other activities on your list? Or should it be put off for another day?

Not only does this method organize how you attack your tasks for the day, but it also brings mental clarity. You will not need to use mental energy and willpower to have to decide what to do next. By telling yourself you will do what’s important now, you are telling yourself you will do whatever activity needs to be done to help yourself be successful.
