You are your Excuses!

None of us are immune to it. Especially as athletes and competitors. But every one of us has at one time or another made excuses in our lives for the reasons as to why things didn’t go our way or why we chose not to do something. It’s almost as if it’s built in to our DNA. But we can change that.

One of the most effective ways to become successful is to learn to get rid those excuses that don’t do anything for you except hurt your mindset. Yes, there will be days when you don’t feel good or you don’t necessarily want to do what is required. There will be days when you lose a match or game that you didn’t think you were supposed to. And there will be times when an obstacle gets in your way. Welcome to life…it doesn’t always go your way! Don’t make excuses. Give it your best shot and then let the chips fall where they may. Remember, all we can control is our actions and our attitudes!

When you make excuses for why you didn’t win or didn’t play your best, you aren’t doing anything but trying to save your ego. If you really want to improve, you need to be able to check your ego at the door and except all situations and outcomes as a chance to learn and grow into something better! If events didn’t go your way, don’t point blame and make excuses. But rather, accept the outcome, find ways to learn the lesson that is there, and then get better for next time.

If you want to be great, then have the mentality to take those would be excuses and turn them into challenges for you to overcome. Take for example, you want to go for a run but it’s raining outside. Do you decide not to go and just sit around? Or, do you decide to run anyways. Maybe you find a way to workout at home during that time so you don’t have to run in the rain. Both of these are great ways to overcome that hurdle. Be creative and get after it! Do your best to be successful in spite of any obstacles. The days when life isn’t easy are the days when your character is tested and strengthened.

Turn those excuses into opportunities to build your character and grow as a person. Learn to embrace the competition and the struggle.….And then ask for more! That is where you will find your best self!

Here is a list of 10 excuses that I’ve heard that will guarantee you a LACK of Success.

1. That’s not fair…

2. It’s too late…

3. That’s too hard…

4. It’s too heavy…

5. It’s too hot…

6. It’s too cold…

7. It’s was the wind…

8. That wasn’t my job…

9. I wasn’t trying…

10. I don't feel like it

Get these sayings OUT of your vocabulary!

Push through the difficult! Embrace the challenge. It’s all a mindset!

Remember to enjoy the journey!
